Mindfulness as Therapy

This DVD was designed as a teaching tool to be used by mental health professionals to instruct their patients and clients mindfulness as therapy. Mindfulness was originally taught by Buddha in the context of gaining enlightenment. An adaptation of the original can and has been used in modern times to overcome addiction, suicidal feelings and distress associated with traumatic events such as the break-up of a relationship or the death of a loved one. Mindfulness sometimes works when nothing else does. The material may be learned by using the DVD and/or the transcription handout. Ideally it should be taught under the jurisdiction of a mental health provider or one of their instructors. The author is not recommending it for self treatment for various mental health maladies such as depression or borderline personality disorder, absent a therapist or other mental health professional. The techniques in this DVD overlap only slightly with the “mindfulness as therapy” techniques taught by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. This DVD is meant to be the first in a series of instruction videos about transpersonal cognitive skills training.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com’s standard return policy will apply.

Thinking in Pictures, Expanded Edition: My Life with Autism

Temple Grandin, Ph.D., is a gifted animal scientist who has designed one third of all the livestock-handling facilities in the United States. She also lectures widely on autismâ??because Temple Grandin is autistic, a woman who thinks, feels, and experiences the world in ways that are incomprehensible to the rest of us.
In this unprecedented book, Grandin delivers a report from the country of autism. Writing from the dual perspectives of a scientist and an autistic person, she tells us how that country is experienced by its inhabitants and how she managed to breach its boundaries to function in the outside world. What emerges in Thinking in Pictures is the document of an extraordinary human being, one who, in gracefully and lucidly bridging the gulf between her condition and our own, sheds light on the riddle of our common identity.
